Taizé
is the name of a small French village in Burgundy where Brother Roger,
a Catholic monk, founded a simple prayer community offering
hospitality, refuge and reconciliation in response to the
hostilities of the second world war. This peaceful movement has
caught on with people all over the world, and churches of all types
are offering services in the style of Taizé.
On
the first Thursday of the month, Seaside has its own Taizé service.
Started last year by our visiting student intern Christian
Brost, our Taizé service is true to
its European roots. We
sing simple chants in different languages and focus our attention on
a risen Christ icon. Each service is a bit different since we vary
the songs we sing, and people offer their own “intercessions” in
the service. The quiet
peaceful connection is in every service, and you cannot help but
come away more relaxed.
If
you haven’t attended a service, please do.
They are held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30
p.m. in the Church House. The next service is offered on August
7th.
This
quiet, peaceful event is a perfect way to introduce yourself to
Seaside Community Church. There
is no cost, and refreshments are provided afterwards.
